2021 Volkswagen Jetta Changes
Today on behind the wheel of a 2021 Volkswagen Jetta. Now the Jetta went through a redesign back in 2021 where it got a brand new look, it became bigger, more spacious, and there were a lot more tech and safety features added. So for 2021, not much has changed, only a few subtle things. So let’s talk about those first, well on the higher trims you get the cold package included. And on lower trims, you can opt for the cold weather package. Which adds on heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, heater wipers that kind of things. So that’s a small little thing that gets added on. Also, on higher trims, you do get wireless charging, so that is available now.
And the latest generation Barnet as well as Wi-Fi hotspot capability. That’s only available if you subscribe if you don’t. Unfortunately, you can’t use Wi-Fi. And that’s pretty much it because everything was already redesigned in 2021 Volkswagen didn’t feel like they needed to do much for 2021. now let’s start out with the looks when you walk up to a Jetta or any Volkswagen cars. It has that German look and what I mean by that, it’s boxy, it’s squared-off, it’s chiseled, it has nice poetic lines, it’s not very bubbly or round. And right away, you could tell this is not a Japanese brand; it is not a Korean brand and not an American brand. And it’s the same thing when you sit inside, this cabin is all business.
And that’s a good thing for some of you guys. You got two large screens in front of you that’s surrounding you in two dashes. And the seats and the door panels and everything in here sculpted, with sharp lines, with a lot of creases, edges, and it just makes you feel like you’re in something different. Me personally I think this is a good cabin, I actually do like the way this looks. This infotainment screen is an eight-inch touchscreen, and in my opinion, it’s one of the best. Not only for this class but just in any car in general. It’s very high-rez, big buttons, very responsive, and the essentials like apple car play Andrew Auto no problems those are compatible.
Something that’s really class-exclusive is this digital cockpit. I can’t think of any other car in this class that has this available. It’s big and bright, you could customize it. There’s a View button where you could press it, and you could look at certain things. Like the speedometer and tachometer and information in the middle. But you can change it around if you didn’t want to see those. So this is a nice addition and something that other manufacturers do not offer.
What’s also nice and this Jetta is the size. When you approach this Jetta, and when you sit inside, you really don’t feel like this is a compact sedan. The cargo room is the same as a Camry, the cargo room is actually really big. And when you fold down the seats, you could definitely put some big stuff in the trunk. Also the rear legroom, plenty of it. For a compact sedan, I still have about 45 inches of legroom, and I’m 5 feet 10. and about like three inches of headroom, so there’s actually a good amount of space in the back. I feel like there’s plenty of shoulder room, the hip room is good, and you know what I feel like it’s very spacious in here. So this is actually a pretty big sedan.

You only get one engine option in the regular Jetta. Now, if you wanted more power, you go to the GOI, which gives you a huge power increase. But this one is utilizing a 1.4 liter, turbo four-cylinder; it’s pushing about a hundred and forty-seven horsepower, which sounds low. But since it is turbo, you’re getting over a hundred eighty pound-feet of torque. That’s coming in the right under 2,000 rpm. So you get that instant torque, and it comes in really fast.
So during that acceleration time, I felt like 20 to 40 came relatively quick. Now forty to sixty took a bit longer. And what else is good about this engine is fuel economy. this Jetta gets amazing fuel economy, we’re talking about 30 miles per gallon in this city and 40 on the highway. 40 miles per gallon on the highway, and I’ve seen some reviewers say that in real-world testing after driving a few hundred miles, it’s actually higher than that. They’re seeing 43 to 45 miles per gallon, so that’s pretty darn amazing.
In terms of safety features with the redesign in 2021. you pretty much get it all, so you don’t have to worry about that. In here you get blind-spot monitoring, you also get Lane Assist to make sure you’re in the lanes. You also got adaptive cruise control, you get an auto high beam, and you get emergency braking and avoidance warning. So in case you’re not paying attention or something soars in front of you, this Jetta will stop for you. So you’re getting all that included now.
Now, as for brakes, I feel like the brakes are a little bit twitchy. Meaning that it’s a good amount of pressure to get it engaged. And once engaged, it’s not really consistent; it comes on fairly quick. so it’s kind of like a juggling act where you got to make sure you have the right pressure. And how much you need to push down the right to get it to brake smoothly.
2021 Volkswagen Jetta Price and Release Date
As for trim levels and pricing, there are five trim levels for the new 2021 Volkswagen Jetta. The base starts under 19,000 but does not come with driver assistance features. Booming up, you have the SE, the R-Line, which is more sport-oriented, then you have the SEL, which is what I’m reviewing today, and it starts under $26,000. And finally, you have the top trim the SEL Premium, which starts around $28,000.
Next, let’s look at the good and bad to this brain’s new Jetta. Starting with the good the Jetta has German exterior looks, the Jetta also has a stylish a modern cabin within. The digital cockpit and infotainment screens are fantastic. Within it is very roomy, and you have a large trunk. You also get good torque from the turbo engine, and finally, the Jetta gets excellent fuel economy.
As for too bad, the Jetta steering feels big and artificial. The brakes feel twitchy, the seats up front are a tad too sporty. In the back, there are no vent or USB ports. And finally, in the SEL trim, you have manual seats, which seems like it doesn’t belong.
